A 57-year-old Port Hope man is facing multiple theft as a result of a police investigation into three separate shoplifting incidents in Cobourg.

Police say the man stole items from three businesses between June and July, including an electric scooter taken from a store on Elgin Street West on June 14.

Additional thefts occurred on June 21 at a Division Street business and on July 7 in Cobourg’s north end.

In each case, police say the man left with merchandise without paying.

After reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified the same suspect in all three incidents. He was arrested this Thursday.

The man is charged with multiple counts of theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with probation.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
