The news is in from the April 10 Handbags for Hospice fundraiser - $121,000 raised in support of services at Ed's House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.

The Ed's House Foundation reports that more than 270 guests enjoyed an unforgettable evening of fashion, fun and fundraising bidding on more than 150 luxury handbags and trying their luck with mystery bags for a chance to win some amazing prizes. They picked totes from the Purse of Possibilities Wall and participated in the golden-ticket draw.

The event also featured a live auction, showcasing five thrilling packages that added to the excitement of the evening – as did the chance to snap a photo with a real Bikini Bag.

Co-chairs Jan Rosamond and Pam Trumper said the event is a testament to the community's incredible support in coming together for such a meaningful cause.

These funds will be used to support Northumberland Care Northumberland clients with health-system navigation, volunteer in-home visiting, supportive care (including grief and bereavement support) along with the 24/7 end-of-life care provided at Ed's House at no cost to individuals and their families.

And this year, the Give A Gift From The Heart campaign played a special role in reaching this goal, as local Physicians With Heart pledged $15,000 in matching donations to bring the total to $31,925. These funds will go directly into providing compassionate care for families at Ed's House, ensuring that those in need receive the care they deserve during life's most difficult moments.

The Handbags for Hospice Committee extends heartfelt thanks to all sponsors, with special recognition to Signature Sponsor Tony Pulla and Pearl Sponsor Jacqueline Pennington of Re/Max Hallmark.

The committee also expresses its sincere gratitude to the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre for hosting the event, and to Wendy Ito, who served as the Compassionate Speaker, sharing a moving and personal story about her father's end-of-life care at Ed's House.
