As Northumberland County and the Municipality of Brighton enter the next phase of a multi-year reconstruction project, Prince Edward Street (County Road 64) in Brighton will be fully closed to through traffic between Harbour Street and Cedar Street beginning this Wednesday, July 9.
The closure will remain in effect throughout the summer until the end of September, with local access maintained for residents.
Heavy trucks and through traffic will be detoured via Highway 2 and Stoney Point Road to reduce congestion and ensure safety.
This year’s work includes replacing underground infrastructure, repaving, new sidewalks, pedestrian crossovers, bike lanes, and traffic-calming features.
Final paving and surface work are expected later this fall.
“Residents living within the construction zone will continue to have access to their properties,” says Municipality of Brighton Public Works Manager, John Gooding. “This work will be limited to the roadway. While there will be temporary traffic impacts and detours, we’re committed to minimizing disruption and ensuring access for those directly affected.”
This reconstruction is year two of a three-year project to fully modernize County Road 64 through Brighton.
