Cobourg Police are warning the public to stay alert after a recent distraction theft targeting an elderly shopper.

On June 18, a 76-year-old woman reported that a man stole her wallet from her purse while she was assisting a woman in a retail store.

She did not realize it was missing until she went to pay for her merchandise. The investigation remains ongoing.

Police say distraction thefts often involve more than one person, with one suspect creating a diversion while another steals valuables.

CPS encourages the public to stay aware, keep belongings close and secure, and report suspicious behaviour.
