Cobourg

The replacement work on the King Street West culvert will permit future improvements such as bike lanes and sidewalks.

The Town of Cobourg's Public Works and Engineering Division advises residents that King Street West culvert-replacement work will begin June 16 and is estimated to run for four months.

A culvert ins a pipe structure that carries storm water, typically under a roadway or other obstacle. The King Street West culvert was constructed in the 1970s and is currently in overall poor condition. The replacement will support a widened road platform to accommodate the future addition of bike lanes and sidewalk.

During this work, one lane will remain open to traffic at all times, with temporary traffic signals at the east and west sides of the culvert.

The Town of Cobourg secured $1.24-million in Federal funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program for this work. The remaining $0.6-million will be funded through the town's 2025 capital budget.
