The Ontario Health Team of Northumberland and Community Health Centres of Northumberland are partnering to offer a free Women's Health event Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Port Hope Community Health Centre (99 Toronto Rd,).
The inclusive event is open to all women and anyone with a cervix, including Two-Spirit, trans and nonbinary people, offering cervical cancer screenings, educational health information and support to those who may experience barriers accessing screening and resources – including patients without a family doctor,
“Women's health is foundational to building strong families and communities,” CHCN Executive Director Taryn Rennicks said in the announcement.
“Our hope for this event is to emphasize the importance of all individuals with a cervix seeking support, educating themselves and prioritizing regular screenings to protect their health and well-being, without common barriers such as access to primary care, transportation, child care and more.”
The event will focus on women's health at all stages of life, including prenatal and postnatal care, cancer screening, gender-affirming care, social prescribing and pelvic-floor physiotherapy.
Dr. Barbara Weiss (a local naturopathic doctor specializing in digestive disorders, hormone health and healthy aging) will also deliver a talk on perimenopause and menopause, beginning at 10 a.m.
Members of the public between the ages of 25 and 75 who are in need of cervical cancer screening, and those wishing to learn more about perimenopause, menopause or women's health services available in Northumberland County are encouraged to attend.
