Northumberland County

With a potential Canada Post strike taking effect Friday, Northumberland County is notifying residents of how services will be affected.

No large-distribution mailings (such as notices and bills) will be possible. Residents and service partners who have received an invoice for a county service are still expected to pay in a timely manner, and on-line payments are encouraged.

Applicants for county programs, services, licenses, permits and other services can visit Northumberland.ca/OnlineServices

OntarioWorks clients who normally receive payments by mail can pick up their social-assistance cheques at the Community and Social Services office in the county headquarters (555 Courthouse Red., Cobourg) weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm., effective immediately. For those who receive payments through direct deposit or Reloadable Payment Card, there will be no change. Please note – clients are still required to report income changes and changes to their circumstances to their case worker.

For anyone picking up a cheque, valid ID is required. If you must have someone pick it up on your behalf, a valid form of the client's ID and signed consent must be provided.

If the labour disruption continues, more information will be provided to clients on alternate pick-up locations.

For child-care fee subsidy recipients, deliver your documents in person at the county building in Cobourg, e-mail them to your caseworker, or submit them through the on-line portal you can register for at Northumberlad.ca/ChildCareSubsidy

Tenants and clients of Northumberland County Housing Corporation, rent-supplement or housing-benefit programs who normally mail in required information may see a delay until the postal disruption has ended. Alternatively, tenants and clients can hand in documents in person at the county building to have them scanned and returned.

On-line purchase of waste-bag tags is suspended until further notice, but you can get a list of where to purchase them at Northumberland.ca/BagTags

Fines incurred under the Provincial Offences Act can be paid in person at the Provincial Offences Office at 860 William St., Cobourg, or on-line at Northumberland.ca/Tickets. Fines can also be paid by phone at 905-372-3329 ext. 5300 or toll-free at 1-800-354-7050 ext. 5300 – or in-person at any POA court office in the province. Clients are encouraged to attend the court office in Cobourg, however, with respect to any time-sensitive matter.
