On Monday, May 19, the Golden Plough Lodge – Northumberland County's long-term-care home – welcomed residents, their families and staff members to a Wellness and Health Fair.
The event was made possible thanks to support from Cameco, who is committed to making a positive long-term difference in local communities.
The fair featured a wide variety of inclusive and engaging activities designed to support mental, emotional and physical health – mindfulness workshops, creative-art sessions, movement-based activities (such as Zumba) as well as such calming experiences as reiki and mini-manicure makeovers.
A range of interactive elements (including a petting zoo) added to the sense of joy, comfort and connection.
It was an occasion for families and staff to come together, recharge and explore new approaches to self-care in a warm, welcoming environment. The donation from Cameco allowed the home to broaden the scope of the fair with more therapeutic activities and engagement opportunities that enriched the experience for everyone.
“It reminded us all how important it is to nurture mental and emotional well-being – especially in a long-term-care setting, where community support plays such a vital role,” Director of Health and Human Services Glenn Dees commented in the announcement.
“We sincerely appreciate the contribution from Cameco to make this event possible.”
“Cameco is happy to support collaborative mental-health events such as the Golden Plough Lodge's Wellness and Health Fair,” Fuel Services Division President Dale Clark added.
“This collaboration reflects our commitment to addressing mental health across our community, as we believe that mental well-being is a vital part of overall health and quality of life.”
Soon to move to a newer and larger location, the Golden Plough Lodge is committed to supporting residents in maintaining a life of purpose, choice, dignity and respect, with community-driven initiatives that prioritize wellness and mental health representing an important part of these efforts.
