A half-century in the biz will be celebrated by Northumberland Players this fall as they debut their 50th season.
Decades of showcasing local talent is certainly cause to celebrate, from that first 1976-1977 season (which saw them offer Don't Drink The Water and Arsenic and Old Lace) to the one just announced for 2025-2026.
Another legacy the Players have given to the community is the Firehall Theatre, the downtown venue at 201 Second St. That was once actually the town's firehall which the players have turned into an intimate performing venue.
The first production kicks off here in September, with The Revolutionists., followed in October by the season's first of their popular dinner theatres at the Best Western Plus Cobourg – The Play That Goes Wrong.
Looped takes them back to the Firehall Theatre in November – also in November, you can catch their Annie Jr. next door at the Victoria Hall Concert Hall.
Following December's Christmas Concert At Victoria Hall, a January dinner theatre brings local audiences Leading Ladies.
The tradition of a big annual musical continues in February, as they perform Mamma Mia! at Port Hope's Capitol Theatre.
In March, it's back to the Firehall Theatre for The Memory of Water, followed by another dinner theatre at the Best Western in April – Where You Are.
The season concludes at the Firehall Theatre in May with The Last Real Summer.
And the golden-anniversary celebrations wind up with a bang on May 22, when a celebration is planned at Victoria Hall. A Golden Gala: Celebrating 50 Years of Theatre and Community will feature the music of TOAST, and tickets will be available at nplay.ca
Meanwhile, until June 8, Talley's Folly is playing at the Firehall Theatre. For ticket information, visit nplay.ca/talley
