Cameco is donating $5000 to support school nutrition programs in Northumberland County. The money generously given to Northumberland Food for Thought, generally helps to purchase equipment needed for either food production or storage

“Student nutrition programs are vital to ensuring children and youth receive the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “Cameco is proud to support the work of Northumberland Food For Thought and their efforts to make a positive difference to the health and well-being of all students.”

These programs are free and voluntary, providing food to thousands of students in the area every day.  This funding will help schools across Northumberland County purchase healthy foods, so students can start their day nourished and ready to learn.

Some schools offer a meal program, while others provide nutritious snacks to students.

“Research shows that Student Nutrition Programs can help support student academic success by removing a major obstacle to learning—hunger,” adds Kimberly Leadbeater, Registered Dietitian with HKNP District Health Unit and Chair for Northumberland Food For Thought.
